WampServer is a Windows web development environment. It allows you to create web applications with Apache 2, PHP and a MySQL database. Alongside, PhpMyAdmin allows you to manage easily your databases.
WampServer’s Apache Service not starting or can’t activate on Microsoft windows?
After installation of WampServer in Microsoft windows operating system, sometimes Apache service won’t start and MySQL database service alone will start execution. The main reason for this issue that PORT configuration in Apache service. Apache uses PORT 80 as default, therefore if some other application from your operating system using PORT 80 then WampServer Apache can’t start.
Let’s consider that you have Skype application in your operating system. i.e., Skype application using PORT 80 as default. In this article, I described the detailed procedure for changing your Skype application’s default port settings.
Open Skype configuration window. Tools –> Options
Open ‘Connection tab’ under ‘Advanced’ section. Advanced –> Connection
Uncheck this checkbox to disable the default port ‘Use port 80 and 443 for additional incoming connections’.
Therefore Skype application will employ to defined Port 17962 instead of default Port 80. After unchecked, click the ‘Save’ button.
Your changes will be applied the next time you start your Skype application. i.e., restarting your Skype application. There are 2 ways to restart your Skype application directly.
Restarting your PC system
Restarting Skype application
Restarting Skype application:
We can easily control all windows applications through Task manager. Open your system task manager by right clicking Taskbar.
Goto ‘Process’ tab, then select and right click Skype application (skype.exe) from the running process list. You will get process’s controlling menu with all options, select ‘End process’.
Confirm the process termination.
Now your Skype application terminated. i.e., All running process of existing Skype resources killed.
Start your Skype application from your program menu. Your new port configuration will be processed during initialization. Therefore Port 80 will be available only for Apache.
Restarting WampServer Apache service:
Right click WampServer icon from Taskbar.
Click ‘Restart All Services’ to initialize restart process of Apache and MySQL. Please wait for a couple of seconds to finish this operation.
Once all process restarted then the WampServer icon color will be changed to GREEN.
